My Artist Statement

I am a dancer and choreographer, based in balletic and contemporary movement. I strive to express, perform, and create in a way that gives a piece of myself away to the audience. I see my work in both dancing and choreographing as my most vulnerable state, a way to share through movement and music. I like experimenting with the body and its many beauties. I am passionate about painting and other visual arts, and I see the body in dance as a form of this. I am driven by music and the visual aesthetic. A quote from Theodore Dreiser comes to mind, “Art is the stored honey of the human soul”. I have a firm belief that movement says what words cannot, what music cannot, and I think dance being that “art” truly showcases regions of our being that we can’t unveil otherwise.

I’m passionate about women’s issues more than anything, mental health, and a general observance of the emotions, oppressions, and events that can often not be described with words. I think that my creations are those that can be especially be felt by women. I work in a realm that always relates to some aspect of my own life, my own experience, and no matter what these are, I feel that the connection between women universally is something that has been able to connect my dancers with whatever story I may be trying to tell. I think that through this art we can feel seen, and that is an effort I strive for in every moment of my creation. We all want to be heard, to be listened to, to be understood.
